Physics

Department of Teaching and Research

The Department of Physics at the École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay is dedicated to providing high-level training in fundamental physics. Upon graduation from the École, the vast majority of students go on to pursue their studies through a doctoral program in physics or at the intersections of physics with other disciplines.

Who is the program intended for?

The department primarily admits École Normal students who are selected to pursue a four-year program leading to the institution’s degree.

Admission may be based on a competitive exam for entry into the first year (“first-year entrance exam”) or into the master’s program (“second entrance exam,” taken after completing the third year of undergraduate studies). Selection may also be based on an application review for admission to the first or second year.

It also admits students who are enrolled for only one year of study, such as those preparing for the agrégation exam or participating in the quantum technology research year (ARTeQ), for example.
