Preparation for the Agrégation in Physics (Physics Track)

The preparation program for the Agrégation in Physical Sciences (Physics track) is open to students from the École Normale and the Department of Physics, as well as to students admitted on the basis of their academic records for a single year of training. The number of students admitted based on their application varies depending on the number of École Normale students (generally, approximately two-thirds are École Normale students). In recent years, non-École Normale students have come from the following programs and institutions: the Master’s in Fundamental Physics at Paris-Saclay University, the University of Strasbourg, the University of Bordeaux, Centrale-Supelec, IOGS, ENSTA, École Polytechnique, Telecom, and Mines de Paris. The program also admits PhD holders.

The M2 “Higher Education Training in Physics – Paris-Saclay” is awarded at the end of the program year. This is by no means a “research” M2 degree and therefore does not qualify students to enroll in a doctoral program. Obtaining this M2 degree before the results of the competitive exam eligibility are announced allows students to sit for the oral exams of the agrégation.
